Helpful Links for creating your character...

To find a PB:

Possible PB’s, and communities strictly for icons of PBs, for those who are having trouble finding/deciding on someone to play their character. Please remember to comment that you’re taking the icons, and to credit in your user pics.

First stop:

♥ ♥ ♥ PBs and More for RPG: A fantastic comm that specialises on linking to icons on various sites - both on LJ and GJ. It lists pbs, but also icons of owls, quidditch team icons, sexy icons, baby icons...and so on and so forth. A great way to start rather than to look through all the different sites. Here you have all links at one place. They've moved to GJ but with the troubles there I'm not sure they still are active unfortunately.

Insane Journal:

[info]pb_updates: Not an iconing page, but one that links to icons on other pages. Searchable through tags and an alternative to looking through one million icon comms.

[info]all_hemophages: page is still under construction as it's being moved here from GJ. The comm is FRIENDS ONLY but judging from their sample post they do high quality work.

[info]briarrose_muses: Not only pbs, but other icons as well.

[info]musicaal: A lot of different pbs. Icon directory here

[info]freelikewater: Not so big yet, but good icons. Directory on the info-page and uses tags to organise.

[info]elysian_icons: Good quality icons, organised by tags. Links to different directories on the info page, among them directory for iconed males or females, tags by feature and make a request.

[info]icondilemma: Good quality icons of people who look like people. Organised by tags, master list on the user info page.

[info]blevicons: Moved from GJ? Uses tags to organise after actor and feature. Most of the PBs used in this journal are on the younger side, but there are a few older PBs as well. Master list found here.

[info]eronn_rpg_icons: Good quality. Uses tags to organise their pbs, both after actor and feature. Directory found on user info page.

[info]ether_bunny: Master directory found here

[info]frakkingcylon: Good quality and smart with zip-uploads for the entire group of icons, though hard to navigate since they don't tag their entries. Master directory found here

[info]haggardassicons: Offers a wide range of unique icon subjects, very few of which are too popular. For your more unusual pbs. Master directory found here

[info]gimcrack:High quality icons, searchable through tags. Master directory found on user info page.

[info]tara_fleur: High quality icons, searchable through tags which include rough ages. Also post the age of the pb in her header for posts. Master directory found here (females) and here (males). Also has a list of suggestions of pbs for different characters here if you're out of ideas.

Greatest Journal: (some of these you need to join to see.)

rpg-icons: Hundreds of PB icons, memoried by actor. A little hard to navigate if you want to find icons by hair color or gender, but if you have a an actor/singer in mind, check here first. FRIEND LOCKED. Some of the newer entries (Nov. ’06 to now) are un-locked, but majority of the posts are friend-locked.

Iconivore: A page of good quality icons. No tagging system but a pb directorate on their user info page: here

Mug-Shots: An older journal, with lots of great PB’s. Master directory found here for a list of the people they’ve iconed. FRIEND LOCKED.

blevcons: Blevcons before they moved. We're not sure if they're at all different.

shadesofscarlet: Just as the name suggest, you’ll only find icons of redhaired actresses and actors. They also rec posts from other journals. There’s no tags or memories, so you need to scroll to find what you're looking for. There’s not many posts of red-haired boys, but there plenty of redheaded women. FRIENDS ONLY.

elite_rpgicons: A large icons site, which organises their post in memories after actor/actress. A downside to this comm is that they don't have teasers in their post, but all icons are behind the cut, which is bad when you don't know who you're really looking for or just want to browse. FRIENDS ONLY

Hotdamn_Icons: A good icon site with lots of icons. Masterlist to be found here

yellowbellicons: Organised by tags, including tags for age. Rather small for now, but seems to have potential.

littlepuffin: Organised by tags, often include information about the pb, such as when they were born and how old they are in the particular set of icons. Masterlist to be found here.

alexcicio: Organised by tags, masterlist to be found here.

0hboyicons: A rather small site so far. A PB Directory can be found on the user info page.

rpg_icons_ita: An italian icon community with a nice selection. Has a PB Directory on the user info page.

iconsbycate: An active iconmaker with high quality icons. A masterlist can be found here

chaoschick: Organised by tags, including tags for age. A masterlist can be found here

snogcons: What it sounds like. Has categories such as almost kissing, suggestive, tangled legs...as well as a few regular PBs. Not big but has potential.

Livejournal:

Hollow_art A great comm which uses tags to organise their PB posts. You can search for a specific actor but also after haircolour, sex, skin, origin...

Rpg_pb_icons: Again a very small com who hasn't updated since May, but worth a look all the same.

HP-rpg-icons: A com with PBs chosen to fit the Harry Potter characters. Has the unfortunate downside of not having a system for cataloging their PBs so the only way is to look through the old posts. It might be good for inspirations for those who has no clue as to what they're looking for but would probably be very ineffective if you have someone special in mind.

To find a PB for your child (or if you want to use a relatively unknown face)

New Faces This is a place where people can add their photos to be picked up by modelling agencies. A great place to find PBs for children as they have a lot of child models on file, but also a good place to find that unknown face among the older models. The page is searchable by age, height, haircolour, skincolour and body type.

About your character:

Astrology – what sign is your character? A good place to find in depth information about the different signs to help give your character the right month to be born in.

Numerology – what birthday should your character have? This page lists characteristics for those born on a certain date. Good for finding out the date of birth for your character.

Wands – everything you need to find out about wands and the wood used to make them. There are information about the different magical properties of woods to help you choose and you can also find the list that JKR used to give Harry, Hermione and Ron their original wands and give your character a wand made from wood that is connected to the month they were born.

When you play:

The weather – this is the weather for the area, and also the official weather of the game. Don't make it rain when the sun is shining :)

Try the BBC weather forecast that is closest to where us Muggles believe Hogsmeade to be.

British English Resources:

While this game is not 'Brit picked', we thought we'd provide a few links that might help you avoid a lot of the more common 'Americanisms'.

If you have any questions regarding specific names of things or just general questions about British terms, a great community to check is [info]hp_britglish.

British vs American English is a quick little tool for more common words that has both the American and British words as is English to English.

And, for general grammar, Common Errors in English is a nice resource for browsing if you ever have any doubts of 'awhile versus a while' etc.
